Partial and full dentures for restoring missing teeth at Endres Dental Care

What are dentures good for?

When you lose teeth, it’s similar to losing other body parts like fingers or toes. The more you lose the harder certain activities become. When you lose teeth, the activities that become more difficult are eating, laughing, talking, smiling, and many more of life’s most enjoyable things. For this reason, many people who have lost some or all of their teeth suffer from low self-esteem and depression. Dentures offer a chance to bring these joys back into your life.

Are dentures just like teeth?

We won’t lie, dentures are not teeth. If you are looking for the closest possible replacement to teeth, we recommend you explore the different options for dental implants. But if dental implants just aren’t something that fits into your life, dentures are much better than having no teeth at all. We find that the people who do best with their new dentures are those who are committed to learning to use them. Like riding a bike for the first time, learning to use your new dentures take lots of time and practice. One thing we definitely promise though is that they will look amazing from day one and you’ll be happy to wear them.

What is an implant denture?

Dental implants can make any denture much more stable and comfortable. There are two types of implant dentures. The difference between the two is that one option is screwed in permanently to 4-6 dental implants while the other option snaps into 2-4 dental implants so it is secure during the day but removable at night. Implant bridges or dentures are a great option for anyone looking for a better-fitting denture or for the closest possible replacement for natural teeth.

What is a partial denture?

A partial denture is for someone who is missing some but not all of their teeth. A partial denture is a single piece, usually with a metal structure, that clips onto your existing teeth and fills in the teeth that are missing. It is removable for easy cleaning but should be snug for easy chewing, and talking. There are several different types of partial dentures for specific situations and the dentist will help you decide which is best for you.

How do I clean my denture?

It’s easier than cleaning your teeth! We recommend using a soft-bristled denture brush and simple dish soap at least once a day before bed but ideally after each meal. Do not use toothpaste or mouthwashes because these can damage the denture. If you want to freshen up the smell of your denture, you can use denture cleaning tablets found in any grocery store or pharmacy. Most importantly, you need to take the denture out every night and place it in a cup of water while you sleep. Having the denture out for 8 hours a day will give your gums a breather and prevent fungal infections.

Will I need to use denture glue or adhesive?

Dentures are held in place by only your gums. Everyone has different gums after they loose teeth, but as the years go by the gums continue to shrink more and more. One advantage of dental implants is that they stop the gums and bone from shrinking. Dental implants also hold the dentures in place so you will never have to use adhesive. We will make your dentures so they are as solid as possible but sometime there just are not enough healthy gums to keep the denture stable and you need to use some adhesive. If adhesive is just unavoidable we’re happy to discuss which ones we like and some strategies to help you get the most out of your dentures. We’re always here for you.
